Ghislain Picard
Regional Chief of the Assembly of First Nations of Quebec and Labrador
Born in 1955, Ghislain Picard hails from the Innu community of Pessamit in the Côte-Nord region. Between 1976 and 1989, he worked in communications, notably for the Conseil des Atikamekw et des Montagnais, the political organization representing the Atikamekw and Innu communities at the time. In 1983, he played a key role in the establishment of the Société de communication Atikamekw-Montagnais (SOCAM), a large Indigenous-language broadcasting network. In 1992, he was elected Chief of the Assembly of First Nations Quebec-Labrador, a position he holds to this day. In this capacity, Chief Picard plays a leading role in advocating for the recognition and protection of the rights of the nations and communities he represents.
