Jean-Paul Nolet
Radio-Canada host and news anchor
Jean-Paul Nolet (1924-2000) was a key figure in the early days of French television at Radio-Canada. A proud Abenaki from Odanak, he first joined the public broadcaster in 1944 as a radio announcer and reader of soap operas and dramas. Gaining prominence as a major voice of Société Radio-Canada (SRC), he transitioned to television, where he enjoyed a long career as a news anchor on Le Téléjournal, while also lending his voice as a narrator to numerous films. He ended his career in radio, on Radio-Canada's cultural channel. In 1975, he also became the first Indigenous commissioner of the Commission des droits de la personne du Québec.
